I’m busting out all my summer mantel decor because it’s MAY! And that means it’s time for all the Americana decor to come out in preparation for Memorial Day and July 4th! And there really is nothing that feels more summer-y than those warm summer nights, backyard BBQs, and celebrating America’s bday with hot dogs and fireworks!
If you’re hopping over from one of my amazingly talented friends in the Spring Into Summer Decor Tour, welcome! So excited to have you here!
I don’t go bonkers with summer decor like I do for Fall or Christmas. But I love to throw in a bunch of American flags and pops of color to make things feel truly SUMMERY and fresh. I decided to create something new for our mantel decor this summer, and a large wreath was a no brainer. Why? Because it was FREE! I already had all the materials on hand. I love new decor as much as the next gal, but I will always encourage you to shop your home and reimagine the decor your already have (especially when it comes to seasonal decor) first!
So if you missed my DIY wreath project last week, go check out the tutorial, because that’s what I used as the focal point of our downstairs summer mantel. Once it was made, I popped in an American flag, and bam! Easiest decor ever! I’ll also be sharing some fun summer mantel decor from years past in hopes that I’ll inspire you even more!

This Years Summer Mantel Decor
My mantel decor had been pretty full and cluttered prior to re-decorating for summer, so I decided to keep things pretty simple with one main focal point and some fun layers. The flag really just added the best final touch for the Summer season!
I’ve had a pair of these old chippy windows for a few years now, and I haven’t used them in awhile. So I busted one out and it was perfect to add just an extra touch as the background of the wreath! I love the chippy aqua paint for that fresh summer feeling, too!
Another fun summer idea for a wreath like this would be to add faux lemons or peaches instead of the flag. Nothing screams summer quite like a nice pop of yellow or orange!
To bring in more of that Americana feel, I added an inexpensive “tea stained” flag from Amazon to my already tea stained dress form. Honestly I don’t know why I haven’t done this every year! It’s my new favorite easy Fourth of July look!
I otherwise left my decor pretty much the same. I kept my usual vintage crock and pillow on the hearth. And I’m still loving my copper container with some faux white florals over on the left of the hearth, too. If you’re new around here, I am obsessed with all things copper! It just adds such warmth to a space and each piece is unique and different with it’s own patina and shine. 😀
Summer Mantel Decor from Years Past
My mantel decor for July 4th over the last two years was a bit different. Two years ago, I went a little flag crazy! But it was so fun and it felt really festive for the occasion. You really can never have too many mini flags if you ask me! I layered the space with beautiful books and some amber bottles. My classic eucalyptus wreath rounds the whole look out on top of one of my favorite vintage mirrors!
Then last year, I took one of my “tea stained” buntings and added it to the mantel. It was a fun pop, but I’ll admit it was a little too overkill for me. I love my buntings on our windows outside, but on the mantel not so much. But that’s the FUN with decorating. Even if you don’t like something initially, just play around and adjust until you do! AND even more so – DO YOU. If you like it, that’s all that matters when you decorate your own home! ❤️
Also can we just appreciate how much more amazing out home looks with our new(ish) wood look laminate flooring! I am still so in love with it and it totally changed the entire feel of the house.
I also added a neutral star garland that I’m pretty sure I got in the Target Dollar Spot a few years ago. I’ve linked a couple of similar options from Etsy for you as well! Garlands are such an easy way to add some fun holiday flair without going over the top or spending a ton of money (it’s also how I feel about mini flags – can someone say CHEAP and EASY decorating?!)
Lucky for me I also have a second mantel in our upstairs guest bedroom that I decorated! I built the entire thing from scratch! You can read all about it in my Faux Fireplace Tutorial. It was such a fun project and it added some much needed character to our guest room.

That beautiful canvas is from Farmhouse Canvas Co! And it perfectly hides the french cleat behind it for the TV e put up when guests come to town! Win win! And as you can see, I’m a big fan of using old amber bottles as candle holders! Add some more American flags and it’s as easy as that!
I hope this post gives you some fun inspiration for your own summer fireplace and mantel decor! Let me know in the comments which look is your fave! I think mine is this years downstairs mantel! I swear the dress form with the flag dress is just the best! Make sure to stop by all the other amazing Spring into Summer Decor Tours, linked for you below!
Until next time…. happy May and happy almost Summertime!
